I started physiotherapy as a mature age student having spent 13 years in the military. I obtained my remedial massage qualifications prior to beginning physiotherapy and have found the skills learnt in massage to be invaluable in both treating and diagnosing patient injuries/problems.
My sporting background involved mainly martial arts of various types, and volleyball at a state level within the military, I have also played football, soccer, touch and basketball at various times. I was involved with state league netball for about 6 years and found working with the sporting population at this level to be quite challenging and fun.
I use a very exercise based treatment model. Given the high levels of physical activity and sport played during my military career I have found through personal experience that a combination of hands on treatment and exercise work well together. (This is also backed up by current research within the physiotherapy field.) I am trained in the use acupuncture for treatment which are largely muscular in focus, (although there is a wider benefit when treating from a holistic framework). I have found that even acute injuries respond to acupuncture. I am currently enrolled in further study to enhance my acupuncture skills.
Another form of hands on treatment I use is Strain Counter Strain which is a very gentle method of releasing (or resetting) tight muscles by maintaining a particular position specific to the muscle in question. I am also trained in the McKenzie method of assessment and treatment for the low back.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!
